About
For teams that care who gets noticed.
Pointd Pal started as a small chat bot for saying thanks. It's growing into a recognition program that is fair to the people doing quiet work.
Why it exists
Thanks in chat is fast, but it piles up on the most visible people. The engineer who fixed the flaky build at midnight and the support lead who kept a customer from leaving get passed over.
Several recognition bots count points well. Pointd Pal also tells you who's being missed, so managers can do something about it.
What we believe
- Inclusive defaults: anything that can rank, shame or leave someone out is off until a workspace chooses it.
- Minimal data: collect only what a feature needs, and keep the list of third parties short.
- Never block a thank-you: billing limits can lock reports and rewards, never the act of thanking someone.
- Slack first, not Slack only: Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and Discord are built and coming soon: see Microsoft Teams and Google Chat and Discord.
Where it came from
Pointd Pal began as hubot-plusplus-expanded, an open-source ++ plugin for Hubot, and was rebuilt from scratch as a Slack app for any workspace. It is built by Matt O'Keefe.
